West Ham Close To Survival After Vital Win Over Watford

NEWS

David Moyes urged West Ham to finish the job after they effectively sealed their survival in the Premier League with a blitz of goals in the first half in Friday's 3-1 win over relegation rivals Watford. Moyes's team mutinied before the break at the London stadium thanks to goals from Michail Antonio, Tomas Soucek and Declan Rice. Troy Deeney managed one for Watford after the interval, but the visitors were unable to muster an unlikely escape act. West Ham rose to 15th place in the Premier League table and sits six points from the relegation zone with just two games remaining.

Holding a much better goal difference than Bournemouth in the third fund and Aston Villa in the second fund, the Hammers should be safe from the crash.

After his second successive victory, West Ham needs one more point to guarantee his survival.

If other results compel them to do it themselves, Moyes is confident that his players will rise to the task against Manchester United and Aston Villa.

"We are in a good position. The teams still have that opportunity and we have to get the job done," Moyes said.

"Even scoring the goals has helped, I wanted him to keep our goal difference as good as possible."

"We have 37 points with a couple of games ahead of us. If we get 40 points, we will do it on our own."

The bottom fourth Watford is just three points above the relegation zone and faces a stressful end to the season.

Defeated for the first time in three games, Nigel Pearson's men will face Manchester City and Arsenal in their last two games.
