Coronavirus cases in India in 24 hours crosses 40,000-mark, 681 deaths in biggest single-day jump

India recorded 40,425 new cases of coronavirus and 681 deaths in the past 24 hours, the biggest jump in a single day, government data showed this morning. The new cases put the total number in India, the nation with the third highest number of COVID019 cases, at 11,18,043. 

The latest deaths bring the total deaths to 27,497. The country's recovery rate, the number of patients who have successfully battled viral illness, was 62.61 percent this morning. 7,00,087 people have recovered, said the Ministry of Health. Maharashtra has reported the highest number of cases, followed by Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.
