UK lockdown life: Binge eating, more alcohol, less exercise

news

People have been compulsively eating, drinking more, exercising less and experiencing increased anxiety during COVID-19 blocks, according to preliminary findings from a study conducted in the UK on Monday, with possible repercussions on obesity rates and mental diseases.

An online survey of around 800 adults in England who were asked about their health and habits in late June and early July found a marked increase in negative mental health, along with unhealthy eating and drinking, lack of sleep and less exercise.

Younger adults appeared to be suffering disproportionately from sadness and anxiety, while 46% of respondents said they had been less active during the closure.

Many also reported binge eating or said they were eating more unhealthy processed snacks and drinking more alcohol.
