"Help Keep Us Afloat": Jason Holder Wants England To Tour West Indies

news

West Indies captain Jason Holder expects England to roam the Caribbean before the end of the year in response to his side to face the coronavirus pandemic by coming to Britain. The West Indies left their relatively unaffected region to travel to the UK, the European country hardest hit by the COVID-19 outbreak, and relaunch international cricket after the shutdown with a test campaign against England. But they did so while accepting a 50 percent pay cut from Cricket's West Indies, and Holder's men lost the series 2-1 after a crushing 269-run loss in the third Test at Old Trafford concluded Tuesday.

Teams like the West Indies and Pakistan, which begin a series of three tests against England at Old Trafford next week, have been among the financially poorest nations in cricket, with England, Australia and India as the richest.

But while England captain Joe Root addressed the tributes to the West Indies, who spent about two months hiding in hotels at the Ageas Bowl and Old Trafford in biological safety bubbles, for making the trip, Holder called for more practical assistance.

"I was talking to our CEO, Johnny Grave, who stressed that we really only made money playing against England and India (at home)," he said.

"Maybe we are on par with Australia and Pakistan. But we lose money against other teams."
