Emmys 2020 To Be Held Online Because Of COVID-19

NEWS

A day after announcing nominations for the Emmy Awards, the Television Academy informed top nominees on Wednesday that the ceremony in September will take place online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The announcement was expected due to restrictions and blockades imposed since the virus outbreak that has plagued the entertainment industry.

The Emmys, the television equivalent of the Oscars, will take place on September 20 and will be the first major awards show in Hollywood since the coronavirus crisis began.

Evening show host Jimmy Kimmel is slated to host the festivities broadcast on ABC.

In the letter sent to the selected nominees, the content of which was confirmed to AFP by an Academy spokesperson, the organizers said they were forced to make the difficult decision to conduct the ceremony online under the circumstances.

"In addition to NOT being able to come together in one place, we also recognize that our world is going through a challenging time in many ways," according to the letter signed by the event's producers and Kimmel.
