Delhi Doctor Dies Of Covid, Colleagues Raised Over 2 Lakh For Treatment

NEWS

After a month-long struggle, a 27-year-old doctor has succumbed to the deadly novel coronavirus at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH) in New Delhi.

Joginder Chaudhary had been battling the infection since June 28 after being tested positive the day before.

He was a minor resident and worked ad hoc at the Delhi Government-run Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital and Medical College (BSA) since October 2019. He worked in the flu clinic and then in the emergency room until he had a fever. June 23.

Chaudhary was tested since two of his colleagues tested positive for COVID-19.

Four days later, he also tested positive and was admitted to the BSA hospital, where he complained of difficulty breathing. A day later, he was admitted to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital (LNJP).

However, his condition became critical and he was later admitted to SGRH, said Rameshwar Sanghwa, Joginder's uncle, who is a nursing officer at BSA.

Joginder was admitted to the BSA hospital on June 27, but doctors said his condition was critical. He was transferred to the LNJP hospital. On June 30, LNJP doctors told his father that he had to put on a respirator because he had developed a hole in his lung. He was admitted to SGRH on July 7, ”said Sanghwa.

SGRH doctors said Joginder's condition was already critical, but it began to deteriorate further three days ago.

"I was intubated. His blood pressure was dropping. He was also diagnosed with emphysema (a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and complained of extreme difficulty breathing, "said a hospital doctor on condition of anonymity.

Speaking more about Joginder, Sanghwa told IANS that the doctor came from a very humble background.

“He was the only member of the family who won and belonged to a village in the Neemuch district of Madhya Pradesh. The parents and two younger brothers survive him. Her father, Rajinder Chaudhary, owns a small piece of land on which he cultivates, ”he said.

Sanghwa also said that although Joginder was admitted to SRGH, the family struggled initially to organize funds for his treatment, since SRGH is a private hospital.

However, the contribution of Joginder's colleagues and some generous donations helped the family continue their treatment.

“They raised more than Rs 3 lakhs for their treatment. Later, the hospital went ahead and waived treatment costs, "he added.

The SGRH hospital administration waived Joginder's medical bills amounting to more than Rs 4 lakh and also assured him of free treatment after they learned of his family's financial situation.

His last rites were performed in Delhi on Sunday in the presence of his uncle and younger brother.

A role model for the community:

Sanghwa remembered Joginder as a role model for the entire village.

"Being the eldest among the brothers, he took responsibility for supporting the education of his younger brothers. In addition, he was the first in the village to become a doctor. The entire village is mourning this loss," he said.

In addition to the Joginder family and town, the medical fraternity is also saddened to lose a young doctor to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Federation of the Association of Resident Physicians of India (FORDA) sent a letter of condolence to Dr. Joginder.

“FORDA is deeply sympathetic to the family of the late Dr. Joginder. We are hurt by this tragic incident and shaken to the core. There are no words to express sorrow for this loss, ”said the statement.
