Mikel Arteta praised Arsenal's "great chemistry" as the secret to his surprising 2-0 victory over Manchester City when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang fired his club for a 21st FA Cup final. Chief Gunner Arteta , he outwitted city manager Pep Guardiola with a cunning counterattack scheme and Aubameyang struck in each half as Arsenal executed the plan to perfection. Arsenal will face either Chelsea or Manchester United, who will meet in the other semi-final on Sunday, in the final at Wembley on August 1. Arteta captained Arsenal's win in the FA Cup six years ago and, in his first season in charge of the North London club, the Spaniard has led them to the final of a competition they last won in 2017.
"We have great chemistry, they really believe in what we are trying to do and you can feel that. They deserve it," said Mikel Arteta.
"To beat the best, you have to take advantage of your opportunities and when you have to defend yourself you have to put everyone on the line."
"I am extremely happy and proud of our players, but it is very sad that we cannot enjoy this moment with our fans."
Within days of beating Premier League champion Liverpool, Arsenal offered further evidence that Arteta could be the man to restore them to the glory days of the Arsene Wenger era.
Arsenal had lost its seven previous meetings with City, including a 3-0 beating in its first game after the coronavirus hiatus.
But thanks to Arteta's master shot, Arsenal gave Guardiola's team a first defeat for Wembley in their last 10 visits.
"We have had an incredible week to beat the top two teams in Europe. It doesn't happen every day," said Arteta.
