COVID-19 Containment Zones Go Down To 496 In Delhi

news

The number of COVID-19 containment zones was reduced to 496 in Delhi after an extensive review by the AAP government, providing assistance to thousands of people living in restricted areas.

The number of containment areas was 715 in Delhi at the end of July, affecting almost 3.5 lakh people. With the number dropping to 496, the movement of just one lakh of people will be affected, Finance Minister Kailash Gahlot said in a statement on Saturday.

The review of the containment areas by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government comes after a memorandum from the Union health ministry earlier this week, allowing all Union states and territories to notify a containment zone 14 days after discharge of the last COVID-19 patient, officials said. Previously, such notification could be made 28 days after discharge of the last patient.

"As desired by Honble CM @ArvindKejriwal, all of the containment areas in Delhi have been thoroughly screened in the past 2 days with every District DM and Monitoring Team," Gahlot said in a tweet.

Delhi district authorities declare a locality a containment zone if three or more people test positive for COVID-19.
