Until now, research on COVID-19 has designated children as low-risk victims, on the grounds that children can resist the virus and not many young people succumb to the disease.
However, a new study has found that children between the ages of five and 10 carry 100 times more genetic material from the virus in their noses compared to older children and adults.
A different study had previously indicated that increased genetic material has a unique effect on increasing infection capabilities, meaning that young children could end up driving transmission of the virus within their homes / communities.
