Shoppers at Walmart Inc stores will have to wear face covers, the world's largest retailer said Wednesday, demanding what is considered an effective measure to control the spread of the new coronavirus.
As coronavirus infections increase in many states across the country, face masks have become the top recommendation for health experts and government officials seeking to control the pandemic, while reopening the economy.
Walmart said that about 65% of its more than 5,000 stores in the U.S., including its Sam's Club wholesale outlets, are located in areas where there is already some form of government mandate on facial coatings. Your new policy will now apply to all stores beginning Monday.
The National Retail Federation (NRF) trade group pushed Wednesday for retailers to adopt a national policy requiring customers to wear masks, and hopes that Walmart's decision will prompt other companies to take similar steps.
