The United States is leading the world in terms of COVID-19 testing and India is in second place, President Donald Trump said in updating his administration's response to the coronavirus pandemic.
So far, more than 140,000 Americans have died from the coronavirus, and 3.8 million have tested positive. While the United States economy is slowly returning to normal, the pandemic is now spreading in the country's solar belt.
"As a family, we regret every precious life that has been lost. I promise in your honor that we will develop a vaccine and defeat the virus. We are doing very well with vaccine development and therapeutic development," Trump said in a statement. White House press conference on Tuesday, its first on coronavirus after several weeks.
Trump also said that his administration will stop at nothing to save lives and protect the vulnerable.
"We have learned a lot about this disease. And we know who the vulnerable are, and we are indeed going to protect them," he said.
Trump assured that vaccines against the new coronavirus will come much sooner than expected.
In response to a question, Trump said the United States is "leading the world" in terms of COVID-19 evidence.
"We are going to do more than 50 million tests," he said, adding that "the second country is India with 12 million (tests). Then it has seven million, six million and four million. I think we are doing a lot of tests "
