The United States is leading the world in terms of COVID-19 testing and India is in second place, President Donald Trump said in updating his administration's response to the coronavirus pandemic.
So far, more than 140,000 Americans have died from the coronavirus, and 3.8 million have tested positive. While the United States economy is slowly returning to normal, the pandemic is now spreading in the country's solar belt.
"As a family, we regret every precious life that has been lost. I promise in your honor that we will develop a vaccine and defeat the virus. We are doing very well with vaccine development and therapeutic development," Trump said in a statement. White House press conference on Tuesday, its first on coronavirus after several weeks.
Trump also said that his administration will stop at nothing to save lives and protect the vulnerable.
"We have learned a lot about this disease. And we know who the vulnerable are, and we are indeed going to protect them," he said.
Trump assured that vaccines against the new coronavirus will come much sooner than expected.
In response to a question, Trump said the United States is "leading the world" in terms of COVID-19 evidence.
"We are going to do more than 50 million tests," he said, adding that "the second country is India with 12 million (tests). Then it has seven million, six million and four million. I think we are doing a lot of tests "
The "China virus," Trump said, is a vicious and dangerous disease.
"It is a horrible and unpleasant disease that should never have been allowed to escape from China, but it did. It infected the world and the world is suffering. But we are going to fix it, and we" are helping many other countries, "said the United States's president.
Addressing the virus, Trump said his administration is developing a powerful strategy.
"We have learned a lot about it (COVID-19) and who it is aimed at. We are in the process of developing a strategy that is going to be very, very powerful," he said.
"Some areas of our country are doing very well; others are doing worse. Probably, unfortunately, it will get worse before it gets better," Trump said.
