The World's Richest Are Looking to Buy Access To Covid Safe Countries

news

The next time the world's wealthy are forced to shut themselves in, they'd like to have an escape ready for a remote, sunny beach. Or perhaps New Zealand, one of the few countries that has removed Covid-19.
They are willing to pay for the privilege, of course.

They can turn to programs that guarantee citizenship or residence in exchange for investments in the host country, using specialized companies such as Henley & Partners, the world's largest residence and citizenship advisory firm. With the lingering threat of viral infections and sudden blockages, the company is helping those with deep pockets buy access to a safe haven.

For example, you can acquire the right to live, work, and study in New Zealand if you set aside NZ $ 3 million ($ 2 million) or NZ $ 10 million, depending on the type of investor resident visa you choose. Approximately 1.2 million euros ($ 1.4 million), including the purchase of a property, will obtain the citizenship of a married couple in Malta.

"Now they are realizing: We are going to implement the contingency plan," said Dominic Volek, head of sales at Henley, about his potential customers. "That is why we have seen a huge increase now, not only in the consultations, but also in the families who actually signed up and said, 'Let's start the process.'"
