Defense Minister Rajnath Singh had a telephone conversation with his Israeli counterpart, Lt. Gen. Benjamin Gantz, on Friday, during which India's clash with China in eastern Ladakh played a prominent role, government sources said.
The main focus of the talks was the rapid implementation of ongoing defense acquisition programs, as well as further expansion of general defense and security ties between the two countries, they said.
"India's standoff with China in eastern Ladakh took center stage when the two defense ministers delved into the evolving regional security scenario," the sources told India's Press Trust news agency.
They said that during the conversation issues related to India's acquisition of various weapons and ammunition from Israel in a fast-track mode were discussed.
Singh briefed Lt. Gen. Gantz on the major reforms initiated by India in the defense manufacturing sector and called for greater involvement of Israeli defense firms in the joint development of military weapons and hardware with Indian companies, the sources told the agency. of PTI news.
India has been the largest buyer of Israel's military hardware, and the latter has supplied various weapons, missile and unmanned aerial vehicle systems in recent years, but the deals have been kept secret due to national security reasons.
