Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch "high performance" COVID-19 test facilities on Monday in three cities - Noida, Mumbai and Kolkata - via videoconference.
According to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), these facilities will increase testing capacity in the country and help strengthen early detection and treatment, thereby helping to control the spread of the pandemic.
"These three high-performance testing facilities have been strategically established at ICMR-National Institute for Cancer Prevention and Research, Noida; ICMR-National Institute for Reproductive Health Research, Mumbai; and ICMR-National Institute for Cholera and Enteric Diseases, Kolkata and will be able to analyze more than 10,000 samples in one day, "PMO said in a statement.
The Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan, along with the Chief Ministers of Maharashtra, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh are expected to participate in the event.
India reported an increase of 48,661 coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 13.85,522, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Sunday.
