A 10.69-carat diamond, estimated to be Rs 50 lakh, was unearthed at a mine in the Panna district of Madhya Pradesh, an official said Tuesday.
Anandilal Kushwaha (35), who rented a mine in the Ranipur area, deposited a 10.69-carat diamond at the local diamond office (Hira Karyalaya), said Panna diamond officer R K Pandey.
Kushwaha had also recently deposited a 70-cent diamond, he said, adding that this is the first major finding after the coronavirus-induced blockade was alleviated in the district.
The gemstone will be auctioned and the proceeds will be released to the depositor after deducting government duties and taxes, the official said.
Although the diamond has not yet been valued, local experts claimed that it can fetch up to Rs 50 lakh depending on its quality.
