Ghaziabad: A journalist from Uttar Pradesh, who was shot in Ghaziabad, near Delhi, on Monday night in front of his two daughters, died this morning in a hospital. CCTV footage showed the journalist, Vikram Joshi, lying on the road, injured, and one of his daughters crying, crying out for help.
Vikram Joshi was riding a motorcycle with his two daughters when a group of men assaulted him and opened fire on him around 10:30 PM on Monday.
Nine defendants have been arrested; A man is still on the run, authorities said. Two police officers have been suspended. "Nine people have been arrested, including two main defendants: Ravi and Chotu. They also had a gun confiscated," said Kalanidhi Naithani, Senior Superintendent of Police, Ghaziabad, according to the ANI news agency.
The state government announced Rs 10 lakh for the family, who protested at the hospital where the journalist died and refused to allow the body to be taken for an autopsy.
Vikram Joshi paid the price for police incompetence, the family said. Four days before Monday night's attack, he had complained to police that his niece had been harassed by a group of men.
