Judge R Banumathi, one of the country's three Supreme Court justices, said her family has been the victim of judicial delays in the past. "I lost my father in a bus accident and my family was the victim of a court delay for obtaining compensation," the judge said on her last business day when she addressed her farewell function via video conference.
Judge Banumathi retires on July 19.
She praised the government and the judiciary for trying to ease the burden of cases.
"Today, everyone is talking about the pendency and the accumulation of cases, but I want to make a positive note: the governments and the judiciary have taken various initiatives," he added.
Judge Banumathi thanked her family members, colleagues and staff for the support and praised the media saying that her coverage of the Supreme Court has been disciplined.
