China reported 46 new cases of Covid-19 on Sunday, the highest daily number in more than a month, as it took steps to stop recent outbreaks that have infected more than 160 people on opposite ends of the country.
Authorities confirmed 22 cases in Urumqi, a city in the Xinjiang region in the far west of the country, the official Xinhua News Agency said. That brought the total local outbreak to 137 since the first case was detected 10 days ago.
An additional 13 cases were confirmed in northeast Liaoning Province, with a total of 25, almost all in Dalian City.
The National Health Commission also reported 11 imported cases in the last 24-hour period, in people who had come from abroad.
