Former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, currently in London for treatment, told a court on Tuesday that he cannot return to the country, as his doctors have told him not to leave as he could contract it due to the pandemic of coronavirus.
The 70-year-old three-time premier is currently in London for treatment after he was diagnosed with an immune system disorder.
He left for the UK in November of last year after being given four weeks' permission by the High Court in Lahore to go abroad for treatment.
In his latest medical report, which he filed with the Lahore High Court (LHC) through his lawyer Amjad Pervaiz, doctors recommended that he avoid going outside due to the coronavirus.
Sharif said he has low platelet counts, diabetes, heart, kidney and blood pressure problems.
"Your heart is not receiving an adequate blood supply," the report says, adding that you can get COVID-19 if you leave or return, which can be fatal to your life.
Sharif submitted his medical report to the LHC regarding his permission to go abroad for treatment.
His daughter Maryam Nawaz had said that his father was a high-risk patient, so his cardiac catheterization / coronary intervention had been postponed due to COVID-19.
Earlier this month, a Pakistani anti-corruption court gave Sharif one last chance to appear before him on August 17 in a corruption case, failing which he can be declared a declared criminal.
In the Toshakhana case, the accountability court issued arrest warrants without bail for Sharif.
Sharif is accused of taking Toshakhana cars paying 15 percent of the price of these vehicles.
Sharif left for London in November after the Lahore High Court granted him four weeks' permission to go abroad for treatment.
He had filed a commitment in court to return to Pakistan citing his record of facing law and justice within four weeks or as soon as he is declared healthy and fit to travel by doctors.
