Ayodhya's Ram Temple Will Be 161-Foot Tall, An Increase By 20 Feet

NEWS

Ayodhya Ram Temple will be 161 feet tall, the temple's architect said, adding that the original design, prepared in 1988, mentioned its height as 141 feet. Construction will begin after a grand opening ceremony on August 5 which will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a number of other VIPS.
"The previous design was prepared in 1988. More than 30 years have passed ... the footsteps are likely to increase. People are also very excited about the visit to the temple. Therefore, we think that its size should be increased. According to the revised design, the height of the temple has been increased from 141 feet to 161 feet, "said Nikiil Sompura, architect and son of C Sompura, chief architect of the temple, to the ANI news agency.

Two mandaps were also added to the design, he said.

"All the pillars and stones that were carved based on the previous design will still be used. Only two 'mandaps' were added," he added.

Construction of the temple will take around 3.5 years, Sompura said.

"Once the '' bhoomi pujan '' (opening ceremony) is performed in the presence of the Prime Minister, construction work will begin. The L&T team, along with the machinery and materials, have arrived at the site and work at the foundation it will start immediately. It will take 3 to 3.5 years for the job to complete, "the news agency said.
