India successfully conducted three flight tests of its locally developed anti-tank guided missile "Dhruvastra" from the integrated test field at Chandipur in Odisha, defense sources said on Wednesday. Developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), the helicopter-launched guided anti-tank missile (ATGM) is one of the world's most advanced anti-tank weapons.
The sophisticated missile was fired twice on July 15 and once on July 16 from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) as part of development tests conducted by DRDO, they said.
All three state-of-the-art anti-tank guided missile development tests, conducted in direct attack and superior mode, were successful and the data was being analyzed, they said.
It was tested on the ground from a launcher to evaluate some of its main parameters, the sources said.
Dhruvastra is the helicopter version of 'Nag Helina' 'with several new features and destined to be shot from the air to destroy enemy bunkers, armored vehicles, and main battle tanks.
During the test, the weapon system was gently released from the launch pad on the ground into ITR launch pad 3, and the missile successfully followed the target throughout its course before hitting it with high precision, they said. .
