4 Navy Officers Submitted Fake Bills Worth Rs 6.76 Crore, Says CBI Latest


The Central Bureau of Investigation has reserved four officers from the Indian Navy of the Western Naval Command, including a Captain, and 14 others for allegedly submitting false and falsified contingent bills that resulted in a loss of Rs 6.76 crore of public money.
"Accused public officials of the Western Naval Command and Chief Defense Accounts Comptroller (Navy), Mumbai conspired and conspired with accused individuals and private companies to deceive Western naval authorities by submitting false and falsified contingent invoices" CBI said in its First Information Report.

The CBI said that Captain Atul Kulkarni actively teamed up with Commander Mandar Godbole and RP Sharma to generate these seven false invoices in the system in 2016.

"All of these accused naval officers abused their official position to defraud the naval authorities and steal money from the public treasury that led to pecuniary profits for them," the central agency alleged.

"The preliminary investigation has revealed that none of the items or services mentioned in the invoices were supplied to the HQ Western Naval Command. There are no documents related to invoice processing, approvals, financial penalties, purchase orders available from HQ, WNC. This it shows everything is counterfeit and counterfeit bills, "CBI sources told NDTV.

The FIR copy accessed by NDTV shows that two bills in the name of Star Network were raised on March 23, 2016 for a value of Rs 1.91 crore and around Rs 2.93 million on behalf of ACME Networks.
