About 100 patients left a COVID Care Center in the Kamrup district of Assam and blocked National Highway 31 on Thursday, alleging that they were not provided with adequate food and water, authorities said.
Kamrup's deputy commissioner, Kailash Kartik, along with police rushed to the facility in Changsari and asked the patients to clear the road and return to the center so that the matter can be resolved through discussion, they said.
However, tension prevailed in the area, after ensuring that patients returned to the center, an official said.
The patients claimed that they were not provided with food and water and that the condition of the beds was also not up to standard, while 10-12 of them were kept in a single room.
