Allegedly, a Pune real estate scammer has been duped for Rs 38.50 lakh by online scammers under the guise of purchasing a particular oil used to develop a vaccine in the United States, police said Sunday.
The plaintiff lost the money in 14 different transactions he made between February and April this year, police said.
According to the complaint, he was allegedly contacted by a woman on a social media site who claimed she was working with a California-based company involved in the development of a vaccine.
"She told him that her lab needed a particular oil that is only found in India and asked the real estate developer to help them get the same and earn money in the process," the officer said.
The scammers gave the man the contact number of a person who was involved in the trade of that particular item in India, they said.
