62 countries, including India, have supported a joint effort by Australia and the European Union, calling for an independent investigation into the WHO response to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a draft resolution proposed for the 73rd meeting of the World Assembly of Health (WHA) that starts today.
The draft calls for a "fair, independent and comprehensive" investigation of the coronavirus crisis, in addition to an investigation into the actions of the World Health Organization (WHO) and "its timelines related to the COVID-19 pandemic."
"Begin, as soon as possible, and in consultation with Member States, a gradual process of impartial, independent and comprehensive evaluation, including the use of existing Mechanisms, as appropriate, to review the experience gained and the lessons learned from the response of international health coordinated by the WHO to COVID-19 ", reads in the draft report.
European nations and Australia have been seeking support for a "fair, independent and comprehensive evaluation" of "the WHO-coordinated international health response to COVID-19".
