The United States government has rescinded its controversial decision to revoke the visas of foreign students whose courses move online due to the coronavirus, a federal judge said Tuesday.
Harvard universities and MIT, with the support of several other institutions, had taken legal action against the measure announced on July 6 by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE).
"The government agreed to rescind" the decision, as well as any implementation of the directive, Judge Allison Burroughs said in a brief hearing.
Harvard and MIT earlier this month had asked the court to block ICE's announced order that students must leave the country if their classes are online only, or transfer to a school that offers in-person tuition.
