Assam Police Chief Dhubri Yuvraj was transferred after local police were criticized for arresting a journalist early Thursday that allegedly led to the death of his father due to cardiac arrest.
Rajiv Sharma, general secretary of the Dhubri Press Club and regional correspondent for a vernacular news channel, was arrested in connection with an extortion case around 2 a.m. from his residence, where he lived with his 64-year-old father. Sudhin Sharma.
Rajiv Sharma through a series of reports had exposed cattle smuggling scams.
Sudhin Sharma had cardiac arrest after arrest. Without help, he died alone at his residence.
Journalist Rajiv Sharma received provisional bail the same morning. He found his father dead when he returned home.
He performed his father's funeral at the Gauripur cremation camp in the presence of several journalists and family members on Thursday night.
