In times of coronavirus, what Kerala thinks today, India should think tomorrow. Kerala has more than 800 Covid cases, but so far only 4 have died. Mortality in other states is much higher. For example, Gujarat, with one of the highest death rates in India, reports more than 800 deaths with more than 13,000 cases. Kerala was once derided for its inability to create jobs, for Kannur's "death camps". Uttar Pradesh Prime Minister Yogi Adityanath scoffed at Kerala's medical record, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi described infant mortality among the Adivasis in Kerala as worse than Somalia. But today the internationally acclaimed Kerala model has performed better than the trumpeted Gujarat model.
