At Least 12 Dead As Cyclone Amphan Wrecks Parts Of Bengal, Homes Destroyed Latest

Cyclone Amphan, one of the worst storms over the Bay of Bengal in years, has killed 12 people in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday. The powerful cyclone destroyed thousands of homes, leaving authorities struggling to organize relief efforts amid the coronavirus crisis. 

Bengal took the brunt of Cyclone Amphan, which rushed ashore with winds up to 185 km per hour. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said today that the entire nation is with Bengal and that "there will be no stone left unturned" to help those affected. 

Ms. Banerjee said the Amphan impact was worse than the coronavirus pandemic and stated that the damage from the cyclone could be in the Rs 1 lakh crore region.
